Two men were arrested recently in connection with the theft of 600 feet of copper wire from an elementary school. As a result, parts of the school are currently without air conditioning. Sacramento, California air conditioning contractors say the copper was ripped off a multipurpose-room cooling unit, leaving the large room and an adjacent teacher’s lounge without cool air, though no classrooms were affected. The school said it would reuse the stolen copper wire, which, according to A/C and heating contractors in Sacramento could cost the school about $10,000, while the value of the stolen copper itself is only worth $3,000. The arrests occurred after a neighbor overheard a conversation between the men about stolen copper and submitted a tip to the sheriff's department.
