Investigators believe the cause was an air conditioning unit that either malfunctioned or fell, though they are teaming up with local air conditioning contractors in Boston, Massachusetts to figure out what could have led to a fire-igniting malfunction. The six-story building sustained severe damage to the roof after the fire traveled up the laundry chute. The heating contractors who installed the unit are being questioned to see whether there was any negligence on their part that may have caused the blaze.
