Kansas City police say they arrested two men who are suspects in a scrap metal theft ring. The first incident was the disappearance of nine trucks. Later, air conditioning contractors in Kansas City, Missouri were alerted to the fact that a slew of units were stolen from people’s homes. Police managed to tie the two types of crimes together and arrest two men who are convicted auto thieves. They were using the trucks to transport the A/C units which they sold as scrap metal. The authorities are now teaming up with Kansas City A/C and heating contractors in an effort to secure cooling units against theft or perhaps install locating devices on the air conditioners that would send the unit’s whereabouts to police in the event of a theft.
