Copper thieves recently struck a Saint Louis charter school, rendering the school’s cooling system ineffective. This is the second time this month the school had to contact Saint Louis, Missouri air conditioning contractors as a result of copper theft, after a total of four condensers and one entire unit was taken, in addition to other copper wiring. A/C and heating contractors from Saint Louis said the unit cost $13,000 to replace, and school officials say they don’t know how they’re going to survive if this continues to happen. Police currently have no suspects in the incident but are working with local copper dealers in an effort to crack down on copper theft.
