As North Carolina temperatures soar, the demand for air conditioning units is growing. So much so that one Charlotte home recently had their A/C unit stolen. According to local air conditioning contractors in Charlotte, North Carolina, the unit was worth about $4,000 and weighed two tons. The unit was probably not taken to be used as an air conditioner, but rather to be dismantled and sold for its metal parts. While police investigate the crime, Charlotte heating and A/C contractors are trying to develop ways to better secure the units. However, if a two-ton unit, attached to a concrete slab can disappear, experts are doubtful anything can be done to prevent a similar, well-planned and involved theft.
