The Department of Energy has realized that one of the country’s major energy consumers are department stores. As a result, the department has been targeting major retailers such as J.C. Penny in the hopes of making their buildings more energy efficient. And their efforts are paying off. The newest J.C. Penny store is set to open in the coming weeks in Dallas, and the 105,000-square-foot building will achieve energy savings of at least 50% compared with similar buildings. With Dallas, Texas air conditioning contractors installing special high-efficiency A/C units and LED lights throughout the store, the building will consume much less energy than any other J.C. Penny. Dallas A/C and heating contractors said cooling such a large space is no easy task, but new technology has enabled them to install high-powered yet efficient units to use the minimal amount of energy necessary.
