A Plano resident has recently been the beneficiary of Habitat for Humanity. The woman, a New Orleans native, was displaced after Hurricane Katrina. As a result she moved to Plano, but she couldn’t get a break. She was selected by Habitat, and now she and her two children will have a new home in 2012. It took about 30 volunteers, including expert Plano, Texas air conditioning contractors to turn the empty slab into a real home. Additionally, the single mom’s home was built as part of Habitat’s annual Women Build, in which homes are constructed using mainly women volunteers. Though the A/C and heating contractors in Plano have paying customers to tend to, they say the free jobs are more rewarding.
