Salt Lake City has vowed to reach 10 megawatts of renewable energy by 2015, and the city recently made a huge step in that direction. The Leonardo museum in downtown Salt Lake City unveiled a new 30-kilowatt solar energy system. A single megawatt is enough electricity to power the appliances in 750 homes, and the city has currently reached about 5 megawatts of renewable energy. Air conditioning contractors in Salt Lake City, Utah say the new solar panels will significantly lower the amount of electricity the city will have to purchase to operate it. However the museum isn’t sure just how much money it will save because A/C and heating contractors in Salt Lake City recently installed a new HVAC system which has yet to be operated. But whatever the savings will be, they’ll be significant.
