HVAC Tac Credits
2009 is the year to finally go ahead and replace your HVAC system in that there are special federal tax credits for those who choose to install an energy-efficient, Energy Star-approved HVAC system. Beside the great tax credit, you will be able to save about $200 a year by cutting your energy bills with your new, improved HVAC system. There are certain qualifications that your HVAC system must have, and not all Energy Star systems qualify. For central A/C units, visit Energy Star to see if your product qualifies. For gas, oil and propane furnaces, check the Gas Appliance Manufacturing Association.
What You Need to Know
- Installation must be completed during 2009
- You must save your receipt and the Manufacturers Certificate Statement
- For an A/C unit, you may claim up to $300
- For furnaces, you may claim $150
Did You Know?
Did you know that as much as half of the energy use in your home is spent on heating and cooling? When it's time for you to replace your HVAC system, make sure you make an informed choice and go for an Energy Star product. You will be amazed at its performance and be doing a favor to yourself and the world by conserving energy. If your system is more than 10 years old, you should have it checked by an HVAC contractor. Be sure to check that your system and ducts don't have any leaks, as this could lead you to think that you need a new system.
Why are Energy Star Air Conditioners and Furnaces Better?
- Energy Star-qualified oil and gas furnaces have annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) ratings of 83% and 90%, or higher, making them up to 15% more efficient than standard models.
- Energy Star-qualified central air conditioners have a higher seasonal efficiency rating (SEER) than standard models, which makes them about 14% more efficient than standard models.
- Saving energy prevents pollution. By choosing Energy Star products and taking steps to optimize the performance of your heating and cooling equipment, you are helping to prevent global warming and promoting cleaner air while enhancing the comfort of your home.
